6. Collection Systems Objectives
Following completion of Chapter 6, students should be able to:
- Identify and describe the components of gravity, pressure, and vacuum collection systems.
- Describe how gravity, pressure, and vacuum collection systems work.
- Operate and maintain a small-diameter gravity sewer (SDGS) system, a pressure collection system, and a vacuum collection system.
- Develop a maintenance program for your system.
- Perform preventive and emergency maintenance on your system.
- Troubleshoot problems in your system.
- Accurately record and evaluate operation, maintenance, and cost information.
- Safely perform your duties.
The purpose of this chapter is to teach operators how to operate and maintain four types of wastewater collection systems, including conventional gravity systems, small-diameter gravity systems, pressure systems, and vacuum systems. Operators will also learn how to troubleshoot a variety of common wastewater collection system problems.
