We are required by the state of Texas to inform you of the following:

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) conducts a criminal history review prior to granting an initial license for the following categories:

  • Water Treatment Specialist
  • Public Water System Operator
  • Wastewater System Operator
  • Municipal Solid Waste Facility Supervisor

Persons with a criminal conviction above a Class C misdemeanor may not be eligible for a TCEQ license. You have the right to request a criminal history evaluation from the TCEQ. If you have a conviction for any of the following you should request an evaluation before enrolling in an educational program that prepares you for a license:

  • Misrepresentation (e.g., fraud, extortion, bribery, theft by check, and deceptive business practices)
  • Failure to register as a sex offender (as required by the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Chapter 62)
  • Property crimes such as theft or burglary
  • Crimes against persons such as homicide, kidnapping, and assault
  • Violations of environmental law

You can find more information about these licensing requirements in the TCEQ Regulatory Guidance document RG-521. You may also call the TCEQ at 512-239-6133, visit the website at www.tceq.texas.gov/licensing, or email licenses@tceq.texas.gov.

By electronically signing below, you acknowledge that you understand that a criminal conviction may result in ineligibility for a TCEQ license and that you have been given these guidelines.
